1974 to 1980 Ideographic Wenzihua
In this category, Huang Yao chose the appropriate pictographs or pictures to clearly express the meaning or the concept in the title of the painting. For instance, in Chuan Liu Bu Xi, he used the pictograph for Chuan or river and in Xing Yun, the pictograph for Xing or moving, painted in the form of moving clouds. While in Yun Cong Long, all the three characters in pictographic forms are in the painting. In Ma Dao Cheng Gong, the character Cheng takes up almost all the space with a little horse or Ma at the side. The concept of brightness or Guang Ming is expressed by the bright sun, and the concept of painting freely without restrain expressed by a heavenly horse galloping across the sky or Tian Ma Xing Kong .
